Our history
Mit Blick für das Detail - seit 1848
Building a bridge – at first glance, this saying seems predestined for some of the high-quality construction expertise of the Wiebe Group. On closer inspection, however, it is much more accurate in its significance in establishing connections with regard to one’s own company history and philosophy. After all, the company, which has more than 850 employees, is characterized by the constructive interplay of awareness of the past and striving for the future.
Since 1993, the headquarters of the Wiebe Group has been located in Achim, southeast of Bremen. The innovative and functional building impresses with its modern interplay of brick, glass and aluminium. In this aesthetic, it is a symbol of the future-oriented orientation of the entire group.
But the company headquarters also gallantly appreciates its tradition-rich past, because when viewed from the air, the building manifests itself as a capital “H” – and thus creates an imposing monument to the original founder H.F. Wiebe . Despite all his confidence, however, the master carpenter, who lives in rural Dörverden, certainly had no idea what a groundbreaking foundation stone he laid in 1848 with the founding of his own carpentry shop.
“As large and versatile as the Wiebe Group has become in the meantime, the family atmosphere has always been preserved. It is the result of our long company history and I am sure that this will give each of our projects an additional boost. Everyone pulls together, relies on mutual trust and attaches great importance to team spirit – just like in a big family.”

Sixth-generation family business
The Wiebe Group, which later emerged from this, is today characterized by the combination of several successful companies that have dedicated themselves to the guidelines, continuous growth and tradition of the group of companies in their work.
Nothing has changed since time immemorial. The management is also still in the hands of the Wiebe family, now in the sixth generation. With market-specific intuition and a high degree of flexibility, the changing times and the respective requirements of the industry have always been – and still are – taken into account.
A special milestone in the company’s history in this regard is the entry into track construction in 1932, the performance of which is expressed today in a large number of large and successfully completed track construction projects.
Our team as the most important asset
However, success is never a static component, but requires a constant high level of professionalism, willpower and, above all, team spirit. In the field of track construction, the Wiebe Group therefore relies on the proven mix of qualified employees and an extensive machine park in order to be able to successfully continue the rail-bound route in the future.
In other areas, too, the existing workforce as well as new skilled workers are the foundation for the expansion of the great customer-oriented performance potential, which extends to various areas of the construction industry. With the youngest Wiebe subsidiary, Wiebe Immobilien Projekte GmbH (WIP for short), the group of companies has now also been able to make a name for itself in real estate-related project development.
Building a bridge – whether literally or figuratively, let’s create a connection and tackle your project both together and promisingly. And we do so with the necessary eye for detail, because even after more than 175 years, we have lost none of our market-specific vision – on the contrary!
The 16-storey Siemens high-rise was the tallest office building in Bremen until the completion of the Weser Tower. It is 61 m high and was completed in 1965. Today, it no longer belongs to Siemens AG, but houses various Bremen authorities as the administrative headquarters.
At the end of the Weseruferpark, directly on the associated headland, is the Lankenauer Höft. The buildings of the Bremen Harbour Master’s Office at Neustadt Harbour, which are now used for gastronomy, still bear witness to the long Hanseatic and shipping tradition that made Bremen great.
Ahead of its time at the time, still functionally attractive today – this is what distinguishes the administration building on the Rembertiring in Bremen’s city centre.
While the eight floors were used by the Senator for Education at that time, today the Deputation for Children and Education can be found in the
For a long time, the administration building on Falkenstraße was the headquarters of the Bremen District Military Replacement Office. With its 15 floors and 60 meters high, it is one of the largest office buildings in the city.
Even though the Bremische Volksbank’s main branch, known as the “high-rise”, no longer exists in its original form, its characteristic design features, which were conceived by architect Carsten Schröck, are still clearly recognizable in the renovated building.
Today’s Wiebe Group also looks back on a long history of hospital construction. For example, in the turnkey construction of a nurses’ dormitory on the current site of the Bremen-Mitte Clinic.
Not far from the nurses’ dormitory, the ear, nose and throat clinic was also built for the then municipal hospitals.
Even if the use remains the same, the appearance can certainly change over time – for example, particularly impressively when comparing the former multi-storey car park at Brill with today’s multi-storey car park at the same location.
Anyone who speaks of the “Katharina” in Bremen is most likely referring to the Katharinenklosterhof multi-storey car park in the city centre. The original multi-storey car park was also realised by Wiebe employees.
It is not only office and functional buildings that pave the long road of the Wiebe Group. Unusual projects have also been implemented in the past – as the Evangelical Church in Hoya expresses in the best possible way.
What today ensures the best performance in track construction in a modern form is the result of years of technological innovations: track construction machines of all kinds. Here you can see a point tamping machine with lifting and straightening device and forehead compressor.
Even then, H.F. Wiebe was on the road on many routes: a levelling track tamping machine with an automatic lifting and laser straightening device from Plasser & Theurer.
Historical review
“When my great-great-great-grandfather, the carpenter Hermann Wiebe, came to Dörverden from near Danzig 175 years ago, he travelled from the Kingdom of Prussia to the Kingdom of Hanover.
He was given a plot of land in Dörverden for his good work and founded a carpentry business. He certainly had no idea that his great-great-great-granddaughter would one day celebrate this anniversary.
And even I can’t imagine what it will be like in 175 years and whether we will still be moving on rails. But I hope that it will continue to be as successful as it is now for a very long time.”
