Progress in track and technology
When you look at the rail-bound fast conversion machine SUZW-500 , it becomes immediately clear that performance is part of everyday life with this machine from the Wiebe Group. Both the laying of the sleepers and the preparation of a laying grade are bundled in the machine, which is over 230 metres long.
The SUZW-500 is the successful further development of the first generation of rapid conversion machines, with the 500 standing for track conversion performance per hour. Despite all the speed, the conversion machine naturally ensures the highest track construction quality and thus also contributes to the economic efficiency of the (re)built track system.
A special feature: the clearing chain
The SUZW-500 rapid conversion machine is state-of-the-art. In contrast to conventional conversion trains, the construction of the laying grade is carried out by means of a clearing chain. The excess ballast is picked up and transported to the rear in the train in the direction of work. The ballast will then be backfilled in the area where the new rails have already been inserted into the rail bearing.
The advantages at a glance:
- Powerful fast conversion machine with three gantry cranes
- Track reconstruction with pre- and post-ballast cleaning
- First-class track quality
- Fabrication of the laying grade with the help of a clearing chain
- No impairment of the neighbouring track
- Can also be used in narrow bends

The SUZW-500 achieves 400 m of work per hour.
In contrast to conventional conversion trains, the construction of the laying grade is carried out by means of a clearing chain.
The SUZW-500 lays 14 sleepers in one minute.
The construction train, which is up to 235 m long, ensures the highest track construction quality.

Fourteen sleepers per minute is an output that is sought in vain with comparable conversion machines. The SUZW-500 is truly a colossus – in terms of its dimensions, but also its power.
This is a good thing, because it is not only the high working speed and the direct production of a laying grade that make the machine the right choice from an economic point of view; thanks to the guaranteed high quality, the built or renewed track system also convinces with low maintenance costs.
