Construction project renewal of Peene bridge Demmin

  • approx. 54 m long steel truss bridge from 1972 will be replaced by a new steel truss bridge with a span of 84 m
  • the biggest technical challenge was the displacement of the structures
  • Old and new bridge were coupled with each other
  • Total weight of the construction approx. 1,100 tons
  • Shunting structure consisting of four support points with shunting sleds, on both sides of the bank, as well as with SPMT vehicles
  • Shunting distance approx. 85 m over the Peene without intermediate support
  • segment-by-segment, the new components of the steel truss were delivered and assembled by the Roßlau shipyard
  • Total weight of the new steel truss superstructure approx. 850 tons
  • Length of the welded seams approx. 8,000 m
  • Corrosion protection approx. 6,000 m², approx. 12 tons of containers processed for coating

  • Total closure of line 6088, northern section Demmin – Stralsund
  • Construction period beginning of September 2021 to end of June 2022
  • two consecutive construction phases on the single-track, electrified line
  • Length of the closed section of the route approx. 47 km
  • was opened on 01.01.1878 as the last of three sections of the “Berlin Northern Railway”
  • mainly used for handling regional traffic
  • Renovation to ensure line availability and to possibly increase the capacity of the line


In the first construction phase, extensive track construction work was carried out:

  • approx. 8,000 m edge path renewal
  • approx. 4000 m of underground cable construction work was carried out and a deep drainage system was established
  • Renewal of the track substructure (PSS) over a length of approx. 4,000 m, with mechanical track ballast cleaning


Other required construction services:

  • Distributed throughout the entire reconstruction section, 12 culvert structures were renewed in open or closed construction as steel pipe culverts with pipe cross-sections of DN 200 – DN 1200
